The semifinals of the Uganda Secondary School Sports Association Badminton Championship in Mukono lived up to expectations on Wednesday, with intense matchups confirming the finalists in both the boys’ and girls’ categories.
In the boys’ semifinals, Kibuli Secondary School continued their dominant campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory over St. Mary’s College Kisubi. Kibuli controlled the singles matches from the start, winning all three to seal their spot in the final without needing the doubles contests.
The second boys’ semifinal was far more dramatic as Kinaawa High School Kawempe edged Seroma Christian High School 3-2 in a thrilling encounter. Seroma started strongly, winning the first singles match through Eric Ofoyuru before Kinaawaresponded. The tie remained closely contested, but Kinaawaheld their nerve to win the decisive final doubles match and book their place in the championship match.
That result sets up a highly anticipated boys’ final between Kibuli Secondary School and Kinaawa High School Kawempe.
In the girls’ semifinals, Mbogo High School defeated Seroma Christian High School 3-1 to continue their impressive run. Mbogo won the opening singles match through Ramiah Bukenya, lost the second singles contest, but bounced back to win the third singles and first doubles matches to secure victory.
Meanwhile, Rubaga Girls School cruised past Mariam High School with a dominant 3-0 win. Rubaga’s Kimberly Joan Ssendawula, Olivia Betty Kyomukama and Kate Ndagire all won their singles matches to send their school into the final in emphatic fashion.
The girls’ final is now set with Mbogo High School facing Rubaga Girls School, promising an exciting battle between two of the tournament’s best-performing teams.
With the finalists now confirmed, attention shifts to the finals as schools prepare for one last showdown for national badminton glory.
