Early Experience of Badminton

When I was a primary school student, some coaches came to introduce badminton. That was about 25 years ago. When I saw it for the first time, it looked so different from other sports, and that made me want to learn more about it. It was an unforgettable experience.

I grew up in a difficult neighborhood called Ekoundou in Yaoundé. I’m currently a teacher of Physical Education and sports.

I saw badminton for the first time in 2004 when I was a student at SOA University. it was during the Badminton Cameroon Cup. What struck me was that it was spectacular, a lot of fun and without physical contact.

Following that experience, I had had a dialogue with the national trainer at the time, Jean Louis Tamba, who advised me to become a trainer.

I grew up as a sports-loving child, active all year round. As a child I did athletics, soccer, hockey and volleyball. During holidays I’d hang out with friends playing video games as well as street soccer which is very popular in Zimbabwe and we would also play street cricket influenced by the hosting of the World Cup by Zimbabwe and South Africa in 2003. I was a very adventurous kid, always trying new things.
